Noteworthy No. 06 | Accessories

Hello! I hope the week is treating you well so far! It’s only Tuesday but and I’m already exhausted. Only 3 weeks left in this semester so that means a lot of finishing up and starting of new projects. It’s so hard to find time to work on personal projects when you have a day job + go to University. Hoping there will be a calm soon, even if the next storm is around the corner.

Here are a few items I’ve had my eyes on for a while, plus a few I just found recently.

boots | bag | watch | lip balm+serum | necklace | lamp | pouch | glasses | blouse

I stumbled across Herbivore Botanicals recently and I got the feeling that I’d seen their products before but it somehow got shuffled into the back of my cluttered brain. Well I’m glad I re-found them and this time it stuck with me. First of all, they are based in Seattle which is an obvious plus for me to be able to buy local. Secondly, all of their products are natural and vegan. I don’t like to put things on my face that came from the remains of dead animals or chemically engineered fillers, you know?

They have products specifically for those with dry/sensitive and oily/acneic skin which is always helpful. They also have a number of products for hair and body outside of the face products. I really want to try the Ultimate Facial Care Set for Dry/Sensitive skin and also the lip balms. I love lip balms. My husband has oily skin so this is always difficult for us as we have to buy doubles of some things but at the same time, it’s nice that we get to pamper ourselves in our own unique ways. Not that I’m one to go all out but a little pampering is necessary. It feels so good to throw on a charcoal mask and paint your damn nails. Even if they will chip in 10 minutes from beating your keyboard to death. Plus it’s always fun for us to do these things together on occasion. He will totally put on a mask with me and we’ll just chat or do our own thing but I love him for being my best friend, in addition to being my husband. You’re the best D!

I can’t wait to try a few of these and please let me know if you’ve tried them. I’d love to hear your opinions and recommendations.

I don’t know why it took me so long to read Madelynn Hackwith Furlong’s blog Wide Eyed Legless, but I’m already completely in love with it. I just finished reading a guest post that she did on UO’s Blog about her current beauty routine. I enjoy reading about beauty routines that are in tune with my own. I like to be ready in a timely fashion with minimal effort. I’ve just recently started collecting beauty products that I genuinely love. If it’s from the organic foods aisle, that is even better. I am in complete agreement with her use of Coconut Oil. That stuff is AMAZING for hair, skin, and diet. How can you say no to that? It’s a triple win!!

What are your favorite natural beauty products? Especially if you have somewhat sensitive and/or dry skin. (Seriously, I want to know!)

1. This earring set via Still With You. I love the ear cuff (it looks like a delicate conch piercing).
2. This capsule wardrobe planner via Unfancy. I’m really into her wardrobe concept and I cannot wait to give it a go.
3. Refinery29 Beauty Prep School video on how to find the right eyeshadow for your eye color.

4.  After sun lotion recipe via Cocorrina. Her blog is bulging at the seams with beautiful content.
5. Anouk Yve’s amazing hair and how she styles it. I wish my natural curls looked a little more like these beachy waves.
6. Refinery29 article – how minimalists accessorize featuring J. Hannah jewelry.

Current Makeup Routine

So I thought it was about time I talk a little bit about my current makeup routine. For the longest time I didn’t really care about all the fancy shmancy stuff that’s out there. I spent my high school years plus early twenties using 3 products: foundation (sometimes), eye shadow, and eyeliner. That’s it! While I’m still not one to get decked out in make-up (don’t you hate that!), I have learned how to use some of the extras in a minimal way to give myself a nice, natural finish.

VS Pro – Airbrush FX Perfecting Primer – Primer is a completely new concept for me but I can tell you that I totally see a difference in how my foundation blends in and it really stays put. I love this stuff because you can’t even feel it. Even while you’re applying it, its like its not even there. I also feel that it has some nice moisturizing properties. It has done me well for the last few months.

MAC Cosmetics – Face & Body Foundation – I’ve been using this foundation for a while now and I love it! I used mineral foundation for a long time and while I still like it, I hated the mess it made and I also had to try and hold my breath, apply it and run out of whatever room I was doing my makeup in so that I didn’t inhale it. Having Asthma makes me extra cautious, however, that stuff shouldn’t be inhaled by anyone! It’s just not good for you. Anywho, back to Face & Body. My color is C2. I did research and bought it online. Luckily the color matched perfectly! If you’re unsure, go see them in-store. I’ve never been but I hear they’re awesome. This foundation provides nice coverage and a smooth finish but I doesn’t look caked on. I really recommend it. They have a ton of different foundations if you’re not into this particular one.

Victoria’s Secret – Bronze Glow Luminous Bronzer – Bronzer is one of the new goodies I was talking about and it has literally changed my life. It really brings out my cheekbones and gives a nice slightly shimmery bronze glow. I also put a bit of it on my jaw line. It really helps to accent my facial features in the prettiest of ways.

Victoria’s Secret – Ultimate Look Shadow Trio – Let me start out by saying that I have abnormally dark eyelids. I’m sure there’s at least a few of you out there that know what I’m talking about. I think we can agree that its nice to lighten those babies up! I never use dark colors on my eyelids for this reason. Usually I will use a tiny bit of the medium color all over the eyelid and crease. Then I will place the lightest color over the lid and right under my eyebrows.

Victoria’s Secret – Luminous Mineral Blush Duo – I purchased this in “Pleasure.” I don’t use blush that often. I just don’t feel that I need it on top of the bronzer. I’m also not much of a pink person. I’d rather have a nice warm glow than pink cheeks. If I do use this though, I only use a tiny bit of the lighter color on top of my cheekbones. Enough for a nice subtle splash of color.

Barry M – Clear Eyebrow & Eyelash Definer – I’ve never had that great of a relationship with Mascara. I know that 90% of you are like “What!” I have tried a few brown mascara’s that were okay. It just doesn’t look right on me. I can wear it but I look better without it, trust me. Right when I realized that I needed to get my eyebrows in check, I found this stuff, win-win! It does an amazing job of keeping my eyebrows groomed and also gives a nice definition to my eyelashes post eyelash curler. It’s was the perfect 2-in-1 for my situation!

Forever 21 Love & Beauty – Smokey Eye Shadow Palette – I actually use this stuff to color in my eyebrows, which is another thing I’ve recently started doing. I don’t know how in the hell I ever lived without doing this. I tried a few different colors (I have lighter eyebrows) so I used a light brown cream color and they turn out just a tiny bit darker and so much bolder, which I really love. If there is one thing I want to stand out on my face, its the brows… and the cheekbones!

Mac Cosmetics – Eye Kohl Eyeliner – Last but certainly not least, my favorite eyeliner! I have this in Powersurge. It is a warm chocolate-caramel color. I use a lot of creams and browns if you haven’t noticed. They’ve just always looked the most natural and flattering. I have green (sometimes blue, sometimes both) eyes and this eyeliner does an amazing job at making those eyes pop! I love it!

Well there you have it folks! Stay tuned for my cleanser, toner and moisturizer post in the near future!

xx, heather
