Can you believe how spacious this gorgeous Australian apartment is?

I’m especially enchanted by the kitchen and bathroom! Okay, the giant closet is pretty nice too… Seriously though, that bathroom is perfect! The double sinks and elevated bath and shower are so lovely. Oh and did I mention that it has a separate bath AND shower?

I have a love/hate relationship with tans, beiges, yellows and browns when it comes to interior design. In the US, beige walls and tan carpet are still the norm for so many apartments and it drives me crazy!! The good news is that it does seem to be changing, slowly but surely. It’s not that I want all apartments to look the same, it’s quite the opposite. They all look the same right now. A little variety and forward-thinking design could do us all some good.

This is a great example of a house that has a medley of the above-mentioned colors. However, when designed well, it has the ability to look unique and absolutely beautiful.

How are you feeling about your cities interior design?

I came across these talented ladies a few months ago and I’ve been listening to them nonstop. Literally, I didn’t listen to much else that first month. Cat has such a soothing and amazingly powerful voice and Stas is one of the smoothest and unique female rappers I’ve ever heard. Their lyrics are right on point as well. They make you feel real good.

Ever since I first heard about them I was excited to see their live set. They’re from Seattle, so I knew it would happen eventually. I wasn’t at all surprised when I saw some shows for August. I was, however, surprised to see that they were going to be the main act at the new SLU Block Party and that it was FREE! What!! Yes, D and I saw them for free and it was magical. Such a good time, smiles all around.

Give them a listen (if you want). Have a good week friends!!

Currently Reading | Stieg Larsson

Have any of you read The Millennium Trilogy novels by Stieg Larsson?

A few weeks ago I was listening to “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” When I was in the middle of it (and completely hooked by the way) D came home from the Library and dropped the hard copies of the first and second books in my lap. He found them in the Library’s  for sale books for $.50 each. 1 whole dollar for two of the best books I’ve ever read! More than a deal!! The timing was so odd but couldn’t have been better.

Currently I’ve read the first two (… Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire). I have both the hard copy and the book on tape versions of the 3rd and final “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest” but I’m making myself wait before I read it. Since it’s the last one Stieg Larsson was able to write before dying suddenly of a heart attack (tragic!), I don’t want to rush through it. I want to savor it forever, I seriously wish it would never end. I can’t even explain what it is about his books that I love so much. I’m sure basing them in Sweden has something to do with it but it’s also his style of writing and the way he portrays the characters as well. I feel like I know them, but even more than that, I feel like I can relate to them. The main character, Lisbeth Salander, is a very intelligent but socially inept girl. Where she is unable to relate to other people, I can totally relate to her. The way that Stieg explains the details of things that were purchased or what someone has in their wallet, or the way the furniture is arranged; I’ve really never read anything like it. It sounds like it could be boring but it’s not. His words leave an unmistakeable view in my head of everything that is happening and I feel like the movie captured the mood of the books perfectly. It is David Fincher after all.

If you haven’t seen the movie with Rooney Mara playing Lisbeth and Daniel Craig playing Mikael, you need to now!! I loved the movie and I’m not sure why I waited so long to read the books. I’m holding out hope that they will make the next two books into movies as well but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

PS – I highly recommend listening to them, if you’re into that. The narrator’s timing and portrayal of the characters is perfect and it helps if you don’t want to try and pronounce all of the Swedish cities and names. It goes by so fast when listening but it’s so so good!!

Let me know what you thought about these and if you have any recommendations for similar authors, tell me!!

I’ve been listening to Vince Staples nonstop for a few weeks now. This was the very first song that I heard and I was like “Whaaat. Dustin, you gotta listen to this!” It’s so good. If you’re into it, definitely listen to “Senorita” too!! That one is amazing!!

I love Sucre! Some of the songs are a little slow but the her EP “Loner” is so good. From start to finish. She has a sweet, calming voice and I could listen to it all day.

This is her very first single and I love it!! It’s catchy, I can totally relate and she’s adorable.

Enjoy!! xo, heather
